From 1910 to 1940 The Chinese Six Company was the detention center for mostly Chinese immigrants, though other races were detained there such as Japanese "Picture Brides", East Indians, gypsies and other immigrants from central and eastern Europe. The location was in the San Francisco Bay, China Cove on the north end of the island which housed wooden barracks, an administrative building, small hospital, and other buildings. The Station was vermin infested, damp, and a "fire trap" but no one cared that it was not adequate. Before Angel Island the Chinese were detained in a 2-story warehouse, operated by the Pacific Mail Steamship Company located on the San Francisco waterfront. Angel Island closed on November 5th of 1940; the immigration detention facilities were then relocated to 801 Silver Avenue in San Francisco for the remainder of the Chinese Exclusion era.
“Chinese Six Companies - A central coordinating council for the Chinese community that sprang up during the 1860's in America. It is comprised of representatives of six District Associations, commonly translated from its Chinese term into English to "companies". They were developed in the United States to provide accommodations, internal support and arbitration services, and representation especially to outside entities. Chinese Six Companies was later more formerly referred to as the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association.”<br>OPINION: Because of these different steps the Chinese community began to band together to protect the other immigrants from their countries and they used their minds to fight the racial hate of these ignorant people. The fact that the Asians worked as a group to protect their own the Americans learned that they weren’t ignorant and that they would fight for their rights always which was the proper choice to make. These people decided that it was wrong to hold people in a place that was so unhealthy and so negative just to try to convince them that they weren’t humans like the white people were. The laws were changed because of this.

The Chinese Six Company
This is an example of how people were feared and how people were discriminated in America’s past. There was a building that belonged to the Chinese Six Company which was really a detention center where immigrants were being kept, people were discriminated in there b/c only immigrants were being held there and sure there were Japanese and Indian immigrants in there but the majority was Chinese immigrants. Also people were feared because of the Chinese Six Company because since it was a detention center holding immigrants only, where they lived were in terrible conditions people were immediately feared by the Chinese since it was called the Chinese Six Company. www.nychumanities.com/chienseresistance.html something written by Eleora Skinner

The Chinese Six Company Source from Eleora Skinner (sorry, couldn't find it anywhere else ) 1910-1940-The Chinese immigrants along with some other immigrants were held in a detention center. This detention center was The Chinese Six Company. It was a horrible and dirty place, it was full of vermins and it was a damp place. I think this is related to the big question because the Chinese were being oppressed because they had to stay in a horrible place.

The site that i used was: http://www.nychumanities.com/chineseresistance.html I learned that White people made these little camp like places to keep the Chinese adn other people in. They named it the Chiense Six companies. Inside htose places, there were very bad condistoins there, people dindt care, and they just wanted to keep all hte chinese and other people into one place. This is part of our big Question, becasue jsut ahving a special place like this for mainly chinese people, dont seem fair, and is mostly aiming at hte chinese, if they are doing this htan htat means that it is showing Discrimination towards chinese people.
