THE US V WONG KIM ARK: March 28, 1898 This case is the first that relates to the immigration laws and race as the Supreme Court ruled for that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution applied to all people born in the United States "regardless of race or color." Wong Kim Ark, who was born in the U.S., was considered a citizen by birth and could not be stopped from returning to live in America after a trip to China. This ruling is now under attack today by anti-immigration groups. “A child born in the United States, of parents of Chinese descent, who, at the time of his birth, are subjects of the Emperor of China, but have a permanent domicile and residence in the United States, and are there carrying on business, and are not employed in any diplomatic or official capacity under the Emperor of China, becomes at the time of his birth a citizen of the United States, by virtue of the first clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution, "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."”<br>OPINION: My father was an immigrant and if this man hadn’t fought for his rights then I wouldn’t be an American citizen today. This man was a hero and yet I’ve never heard of him before and he is the reason that so many laws were written to protect my rights and my mother’s rights about my being a citizen of this country. I will always remember this man’s name and what he did to win for me… Wong Kim Ark.

The case The US vs. Wong Kim Ark which happened in 1898 is related to our big question because he was discriminated and oppressed because he and his parents were of Chinese descent. He had went to China for a short period of time, but when he returned to America, he was not given permission to land. Wong Kim Ark was not considered a citizen of the United States because his parents said he was Chinese and they were subjects of the emperor of China. Wong Kim Ark was discriminated because he wasn't allowed back into the United States.

I got my information from this site: http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/6618/ Wong Kim Art ws a chinese man who jsut went back to china for a temporary time, and when he came back to amreica, and asked to land, they didnt let him. Whene they went ot court they said dat even thought he was born in San Francisco, he was not onsidered a citizen, and dsaid dat he was considered chinese instead. But then the court made decidsions adn siad that if he should be allowed den his partns wer to become residents of the U.S, then he was able to land in America. This is related to uor big Question, becuae it showed sicrimianted. Just becuase WongKim Ark's parents wer not residents of the U.s, the ewanot allowed to land on America, unless htey converted to be one.

1895, US - Wong Kim Ark was an american citizen because he was born in the US in 1873. His parents weren't born in the united states and was a subject to the emperor in china. When Wong Kim Ark returned to Hong Kong for a short period of time and came back, he wasn't considered a US citizen anymore. The government didn't allow Wong Kim Ark in was because his parents said he was chinese with is also a subject to the emperor. He couldn't come into America was because of his skin color, race, and basically because of who he was.

Wong Kim Ark is a Chinese Citizen. He had went back to China for a visit but when he came back to the US, he was not allow.
I think this is unfair. Wong Kim Ark is a citizen of the United States and yet, he is not allow to be in the United States. That does not sound right. You can't come in to the US even if your a citizen?

Wong Kim Ark was a Chinese man born in America. His parents immigrated back to China. He went to China to visit his parents. On his way back to America, he was going to be deported because of the Chinese Exclusion Act. Even though he had legal document that he was born in America. This is an act of discrimination towards the Chinese.
